LONDON - OLYMPIC EXPLORER

London and the Olympics 2012

If you failed to get tickets for the Olympic Games, take this chance to be part of this moment in History, and see the tremendous construction effort made to transform this part of East London into the Games venue. This tour will give you an insight into the new face of London and the preparations, which will now be nearly complete. Our Hotel, the Park Inn in Harlow, is conveniently placed for our visits, and yet out of the bustle of Central London.

Day 1

We journey via the Motorway system, first to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Don’t be put off! This fantastic Museum has not only the best collection of aeroplanes and airliners, but also a recreation of Ration Book Britain, an insight into life in the 1940’s (admission included). Later we travel on to Harlow for 2 nights Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.

Day 2

For our Olympic Tour we are accompanied by a qualified guide, who will take us to the main venues, the Aquatic Centre, the Velodrome, and the main Stadium. Later we drive to Waltham Abbey, a pleasant market town where we take lunch (included). ENNISTYMON - DELIGHTS OF COUNTY CLARE

A gentle, relaxing introduction to the green heart of the Emerald Isle with its remarkable scenery and wide variety of landscapes. Based in Ennistymon, a pretty market town set in the rolling hills of County Clare. Famous for it’s spectacular waterfalls, the Cascades, and is the birthplace of Caitlin Thomas, wife of Dylan the renowned poet.

Day 1

We travel to Fishguard for the afternoon ferry to Rosslare, arriving in Wexford in good time for our evening meal and overnight stay.

Day 2

First to Kilkenny and then to view the Rock of Cashel, later onward through Tipperary and Limerick to Ennistymon and the Falls Hotel for 4 nights DBB.

Day 3

A visit to the Burren Visitor Centre to see this fascinating geological feature, one of the wonders of Ireland. Later we view the amazing Cliffs of Moher, a spectacular, breathtaking experience. In the afternoon we call at the awesome Ailwee Caves before moving on to Lisdoonvarna, the “Matchmaking” town.

Day 4

Our Coach takes us down to Kilrush at the mouth of the Shannon River, where we take the Ferry and on to Foynes. Here you can marvel at the museum, the luxury Hotel and the major Rail station, which turned this tiny town into the main transatlantic terminal for the huge Flying Boats which were the first regular flights to America before the war. Later we call at Bunratty Folk Park where a 19th century village has been recreated to give you a sense of life in rural Ireland.

Day 5

To Galway, the largest city in the west of Ireland. A beautiful cathedral, fine civic buildings, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Don’t forget to see the legendary Claddagh and Galway Bay. Later we make a brief visit to Athenry, a pretty market town made famous by the folk song.

Day 6

We return to Rosslare for the late night ferry and home, calling at Limerick on the way.

SCARBOROUGH - WHITSUN BREAK

Our first excursion takes to Eden camp, a WW2 prison camp which has been turned into a recreation of everyday life in the 1940’s, a fascinating visit. (Admission included). We continue to Pickering where we take a ride on the North Yorkshire Railway through the countryside where the TV series “Heartbeat “ was filmed. We get off in Goathland where our Coach meets us to return to our hotel with a stop at Thornton le dale, the Chocolate village on our way.

Day 4

After breakfast we travel up the coast to Whitby, a lovely old fishing port with an imposing ruined Abbey. The legend has it that the novel "Dracula" was based on and written around the ruins. But Captain Cook was definitely born here! After lunch we return to our hotel for our last night.

Day 5

No visit to Yorkshire would be complete without a stop in York. Roam the narrow streets, explore the quaint shops and visit the historic Minster. After lunch we return home by late evening.

We cross into Austria and drop into the Inn Valley, then over the magnificent Europabrucke to the Brenner Pass into Italy and to Riva for 5 nights stay in our base the Hotel Sole in Riva Del Garda.

HARROGATE & YORKSHIRE DALES

Day 1

Home to Harrogate and our hotel the 4 Star Old Swan, just a 5 minute stroll from the Town Centre for nights DBB, This hotel was a favourite of Agatha Christie, but now has modern on suite rooms in an opulent Edwardian setting.

Day 2

Morning at Skipton a busy market town – why not enjoy a short canal cruise, do some shopping, or take a traditional fish dinner in the famous Busy Lizzie’s restaurant. In the afternoon we take a short journey through “ Calendar Girls country”, where the local WI created their famous calendar, to the picture postcard village of Grassington, a typical Dales location.

Day 3

Today we journey to Thirsk where the exploits of a country vet, James Herriott, were turned into a long running TV series. We visit his surgery preserved as it was in the 1940’s.We return via Ripon to Harrogate for the afternoon

Day 4

Dales Tour. First to settle, then over Ribblesdale to Hawes in Wensleydale, where the traditional cheese is still made. Hawes is still an old fashioned market town where livestock is driven through the streets on Mart days. The famous Wensleydale cheese is still made here. We continue to Leyburn and its Black sheep Brewery.

Day 5

We start our homeward way, but first a call in Haworth, the home of the Bronte Sisters to put the seal on this very different tour.

Later we carry on to the pretty Georgian town of Woodstock, and on to Blenheim Palace, the spectacular home of the Churchill family.

This morning we go to Gloucester, a fine old city with a well developed modern centre. After lunch we cross back into Wales and homeward by early evening.

Day 2

We venture into the heart of the Peaks with a visit to Bakewell a picturesque market town, where the world famous Bakewell puddings were invented. Then on to our main visit, the home of the Dukes of Devonshire, Chatsworth House. Set in its own magnificent parklands, the house is recognisable as the setting for several films and TV plays. The house contains famous works of art, and valuable antiques, whilst the gardens have a fantastic water cascade, and a breathtaking fountain. We return via Eyam, the Plague village, now more famous for its well dressing ceremonies.

Day 3

Continuing our Peak District theme, we journey first to Ashbourne, a pleasant Derbyshire town with a medieval heart, now more famous for its bottled water. Later we call at Crich, a lovingly restored period village, and also the home of the National Tramway Museum. You will be delighted with a ride on an old fashioned Tram. Onward to Matlock Bath whose Spa heritage is still evident.

Day 4

Return home with our lunch stop in Coventry, with its’ ruined Cathedral, Transport Museum and excellent shopping centre.

To complete your enjoyment we stay for one night at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole (Bed and Breakfast) so that you can have the maximum time at the two Markets, while enjoying a restful evening in between.

 

Day 1

Home to Birmingham by lunchtime, the afternoon to enjoy the Frankfurt market, or the retail delights of the nearby Bull Ring shopping mall. You have time to take your evening meal at your leisure and choice. Later your coach takes you to our hotel.

Day 2

Travel to Worcester for the second of our Christmas Markets. We depart late afternoon and home in good time.

WATERFORD - NEW YEARS IN IRELAND

Dooley’s Hotel Waterford. Renowned for its traditional Irish hospitality, situated on the quay in Waterford where the waters of the river siur pass the front door, just a few minutes walk from the main shopping and cultural centre.

Day 1

Morning departure to Fishguard harbour for the afternoon ferry crossing to Rosslare. We continue our journey to Dooley’s Hotel Waterford. After a punch Reception we sit down to a sumptuous three course meal, and afterwards enjoy a drink and live music in the Dry Dock Bar.

Day 2

New Years Eve. After a hearty Irish breakfast we will have a day excursion, returning to our hotel in plenty of time for our New Year’s eve ball. Starting with a three-course dinner, then dance the evening away, where we will bring in 2013.

Day 3

New Years Day. Enjoy a day at the Races, we will spend the day at Tramore racecourse. Returning to our hotel for three-course meal and a last chance to relax and enjoy a drink, while listening to the live music in the dry dock bar.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, we will journey to Rosslare for the ferry to Fishguard, arriving home early afternoon.

The Great Dorset Steam Fair & Bournemouth

Day 1

Depart West Wales in the morning and travel to Bournemouth, arriving late afternoon.

Day 2 and 3

Two days at leisure in Bournemouth or coach transfer to The Great Dorset Steam Fair, leaving the fair at approx. 7.30pm (Entry not included)

Day 4

Morning free in Bournemouth, leaving at midday for our journey home, with comfort stops on route.
